Full Job Description:

Job Type: Part-time

Schedule: Day shift

Hours: Tuesday Through Thursday–8:30 a.m. until 2:15 p.m.

Optional–Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.

Parent Meetings, Staff Meetings, Trainings as assigned


Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Baton Rouge, LA 70808: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

License/Certification:

  • CPR Certification (Preferred)

  • Child Development Associate Certification (Preferred)

Work Location: One location


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Care of Children:

  • Provide for the physical needs of the children in your care by:

  • Being vigilant in regard to their nutritional needs–lunch, snack, and drinks of water throughout the day

  • Insuring that children wash their hands before and after lunch, before snack, after playground time, and after toileting/diapering

  • Adhering to sanitary diaper changing and toileting policies

  • Encouraging independence in self-care

  • Maintaining a nap-time with the peace and quiet that children need to sleep

  • Providing time on the playground if weather permits or in a designated multipurpose room if weather is too cold or windy

  • Scheduling time in the classroom routine for fine motor development (puzzles, art, using utensils, etc.) and gross motor development (dancing, exercise, etc.)

  • Provide for the emotional needs of the children in your care by:

  • Greeting each child personally as he/she arrives in your classroom

  • Provide a nurturing and encouraging environment

  • Speaking to children in a positive tone of voice, never belittling or humiliating them

  • Comforting children, responding as quickly as possible should one of them be distressed, injured, or show symptoms of illness

  • Notify the Director immediately regarding any signs of illness or injury to a child or regarding any question pertaining to the care of a child.


Curriculum:

  • Utilizing the provided curriculum and the UBC MDO Classroom Scope and Sequence as a guide to complete lesson plans weekly by the posted date.

  • Following the University Baptist Church and MDO guidelines, equip and organize your classroom to the best of your ability, keeping the environment appropriate and current as the seasons and teaching themes call for it.

  • Provide for the spiritual growth of children in your care by:

  • Recognizing God as the Creator of our world

  • Emphasizing in conversation and in teaching that God loves each child and each one is special to him

  • Using children’s songs that emphasize God’s love for children

  • Provide for the mental growth of children in your care by:

  • Encouraging language through individual conversation with each child, through speaking and listening

  • Providing age-appropriate materials, centers, activities

  • Changing out toys, games, puzzles, and books, on a routine basis to stimulate interest and attention

  • Reading stories on a daily basis

  • Provide for the social growth of children in your care by:

  • Using appropriate, consistent, and positive discipline techniques

  • Teaching them to respect themselves and others

  • Teaching them to share and take turns

  • Teaching them to respect the church building and to walk in the halls of the church in a quiet and respectful way


Classroom Maintenance:

  • Make sure that your classroom is cleaned on a daily basis. This includes sinks, tables, mats, chairs, and any other furniture or materials that children might use.

  • Clean and sterilize toys and manipulatives periodically as determined by the frequency of use.

  • If a child in your class is ill, notify the office and take extra sanitation precautions to avoid the spread of illness.

  • Keep surfaces, closets, cubbies, and storage areas clean and neat. Return unused supplies to the Resources rooms.

  • Cooperate with church organizations using your classrooms by making sure that your areas are professionally prepared before Sunday School or any other church events.


Communication with Parents:

  • Communicate freely and openly with parents regarding the care of their child. However, be mindful of what the child and others around you are hearing as you converse with a parent,

  • Use tact and discretion when communicating with parents. Use respectful and positive language when communicating about a child’s behavior. It is appropriate to speak about a behavioral concern as long as it is done in a positive manner.

  • Never discuss with any parent a child who is not his/her own. Maintain strict confidentiality at all times.

  • Notify a parent through Procare any time a child in your care is bitten, hit, scratched, or bruised. Also, write a note any time a child in your care acts against another child (such as biting, hitting, etc.). These specific notes should be approved by the Director or Assistant Director.


Dress Code:

Professional dress elicits respect. Please wear comfortable slacks or jeans without holes and shoes with a back. No shorts, flip flops, open toed shoes, tank tops, visible bra straps, leggings, yoga pants, sweatpants or shirts with offensive or inappropriate logos for a church/school environment.


Cell Phone Policy:

Personal cell phones must be used only for the purpose of using Procare throughout the school day when in the presence of children in your care. In the case of an emergency, inform the director that you need to step out of the classroom so that your class can be covered. When caring for children, your focus should be on them fully without the distraction of scrolling on your phone. This is very important to ensure the best care and safety for our children.
