The Pane: Introducing Victoria Higgins

In the coming weeks, we're giving you a chance to get to know some of the newest additions to the UBC staff.

Victoria Higgins joins us as the Assistant Director of our Mother’s Day Out program. She was previously a teacher in the MDO, and before that she taught for many years in Special Education. She’s a graduate of the University of Houston, Clear Lake. Victoria is a native of Houston, but moved to the Baton Rouge area last year. She has a husband and darling daughter. She’s kind and insightful, and a person of high integrity. She is already proving to be a huge asset to our MDO program here at UBC!

How do you see your role here at UBC?

As the assistant director of the MDO, my goal is to help to maintain a safe and loving environment for the children in our care, to support teachers with curriculum and teaching strategies, and to make continual progress in making the program the best it can be. I am excited to be in this role, and I have enjoyed the work I have been doing so far.

What’s your favorite thing to do in your free time?

As a mom, in my free time, I honestly enjoy a good nap. I tried to think of something more interesting but that's the truth right now.

What’s your favorite place in Baton Rouge?

My favorite places in Baton Rouge are the zoo and some of the nice parks. My family and I enjoy spending time walking and enjoying nature.

What’s a book you’d recommend to almost anybody, and why?

After working with young children for so long, I would have to recommend a wonderful children's book! As a child, one of my favorites that my mom and grandma would read to me was Strega Nona by Tomie De Paola. I haven't read it to my three year-old yet, but it will be fun to see if she enjoys it as much as I did.
