UBC is a faith community that desires to think critically, live creatively, and love continually.
These desires have led to many brilliant expressions, such as To Highland With Love, The Family Tree Café, Mothers Day Out, and English Conversations. We are a faith community seeking to find authentic ways to live out our calling together.
This same desire has birthed a new initiative intended to organically connect with our neighbors. The UBC Arts and Soccer Academy will center on creating a safe space for children and their families to experience the joy and imagination of the arts and athletics.
We want to start small by providing a preview session this spring for families interested in introducing their children to soccer.
The Soccer Academy Preview will be a four-week experience, meeting on March 23 and 30, as well as April 6 and 13 at 9:00 AM on the UBC ball field (off Leeward Drive).
Children, three to eight years old, will be broken up into age and skill appropriate groups for the activities and games for one hour. The activities are designed to teach the fundamentals of soccer through fun drills and exercises.
The fundamentals activities will take place in the first 30-minutes, with two 10-minute games to follow. Children will be led through stretching and have plenty of water breaks. Of course, the session will end with the all-important snack time.
The Soccer Academy Preview will cost $20 per child, which covers their t-shirts and snacks. Each child is encouraged to bring soccer cleats, shin guards and socks, and a soccer ball (size 3).
Parents/Guardians must register a child by March 4. For registration and online payment, click here: https://goo.gl/forms/RHQZxIfvVQrjlqay2
In the fall, we will offer six-week soccer academy for ages 3 to 8. In the winter, we will offer a six-week arts academy for children interested in acting, singing, and other creative arts.
As a faith community, we hope you will share this opportunity with your sphere of influence. We are also looking for volunteers to help with coaching, field set-up, coordinating snacks, player check-in, and connecting with families. Please contact Deb McElgin (deb@ubc-br.org), if you are interested in helping.
